How to Book a Remote Notarization: What to Prepare, Step by Step
If you’ve never notarized a document over video, the unknown is the only hard part. Here’s the whole thing, start to finish, so you know exactly what to expect.
What to have ready
- A valid, unexpired government photo ID (passport or driver’s license)
- The document — unsigned, since the signature must be witnessed
- A phone or computer with a working camera and stable internet
- About 15–20 minutes in a quiet, well-lit spot
Step by step
- Book a time. Use the booking link to pick a slot — evenings and weekends included.
- Send the document. Upload it ahead so it’s ready in the session.
- Verify your identity. A quick ID check and a few knowledge-based questions at the start.
- Sign on video. We go through the document together; the session is recorded.
- Receive it. You get the sealed, notarized document back electronically.
A few common questions

This article is general educational information about the notarization process, not legal advice. A notary public verifies identity and witnesses signatures and is not a substitute for an attorney. Remote online notarization is regulated state by state; please confirm the current requirements for your specific situation and the destination where your document will be used. I perform remote online notarizations only in the state(s) where I am commissioned and authorized (Nevada and Montana).
