Many states still issue paper apostilles. We'll tell you up front what your state returns.
A short, citable guide: what the digital apostille is, how it differs from paper, and how remote online notarization fits — without mixing the two jobs.

An e-Apostille is an apostille issued as a digitally signed PDF by a US Secretary of State (or other Competent Authority). It authenticates a signature and an office so a US public document or notarized act can be used in a Hague Apostille Convention country.
It does not prove the story on the page is “true.” It does not replace school credential evaluation, including China’s 留服 / CSCSE.
It is not:
your remote online notarization (RON) PDF
a scan or phone photo of a stapled paper apostille
an online order confirmation or e-Register lookup page
Those can be useful. None of them is an e-Apostille.

I notarize. The Secretary of State issues the apostille.
Flow: private document → RON → SOS → true e-Apostille PDF or paper apostille.

RON is still a notarial act. It is not the apostille. Title, courts, and foreign desks decide whether they accept RON for that file — ask them first.

I RON — Nevada or Montana commission; English or Mandarin; passport / biometric when there is no SSN.
SOS apostilles — paper or true e-Apostille, depending on the state product and what the receiving desk will file.
Hague destination ≠ automatic e-Apostille. Non-Hague destination ≠ apostille job (authentication / embassy instead). Email the country + document type first.

No. Only some offices issue a true digital SOS apostille. Most still return paper.
No.
Do not buy an apostille as a 留服 substitute. Confirm what that office listed.
